International Alumni Hiking in the late April spring

The Alumni Network Hungary has emerging chapters (small groups) to develop community in our enlarging network. Among the chapters, the Azerbaijan Hungary Alumni Network (AHAU) organizes a hiking event for those alumni who still live in Hungary. If you are among them, grab your hiking boots and join us for a day hike around Budapest.

18 April 2023

The Azerbaijan Hungary Alumni Network (AHAU) ‘s main mission is to establish a platform for Azeri students and alumni, to share news, or simply give them some pieces of advice. Now they open the door to the international community and organize a day hike around Budapest.
If you graduated from any Hungarian university and currently living in Hungary, AHAU is inviting you to the first international alumni hiking event where you will have the opportunity to have a connection with other alumni networks and have fun games along the fantastic nature view.

Date: 29 April, Saturday 10 AM to 3 PM

Meeting point: Margit híd, Budai hídfő (HÉV 5 suburban railway station) 10:00 AM

The goal is to visit Róka-hegyi kőbánya (Fox Mountain mine). It’s in the 3rd district of Budapest and it was the former largest limestone quarry in Budapest on Csillaghegy. The multi-storey quarry and its surroundings have been a protected area for decades, and on weekends it fills up with people cooking and baking and rock-climbing. As well as the bizarre rock formations and flora, the panoramic views of the capital are a huge attraction.

Since 1977, the former quarry and its surroundings have been a protected area of capital importance, open to the public all year round. It is considered to be the largest limestone quarry in Budapest and was still in operation after the Second World War. The quarry is divided into three courtyards, which are well separated due to their difference in height above sea level.
On the trail, there are fireplaces and benches for the comfort of visitors. From the towers of the quarry, especially from the top level, there is a magnificent view of the northern part of the capital, and from the south as far as Gellért Hill.

Hiking shoes, boots, or waterproof, comfortable shoes are required!
